Metalogig File Explorer 8 security

Postby BretMan » 27 Oct 2017, 12:56

Hello,

Before trying MFE I understand it will automatically update/download all my bank, credit card and stocks information from my accounts, including those with dual layer authentication. Is this correct?

Also, what security feature does it apply, such as encryption? Does it encrypt the data while in transmission or locally?

Many thanks.

MFE will not automatically download files from your bank. You need to download them yourself using their download page. MFE is then able to import those files as long as they are in one of the common financial formats (OFX, OFC, QIF, QFX, etc.)

Given that, MFE is not involved in data transmission. The encryption will be provided by your bank. For this reason, MFE will never ask for your bank credentials.

I'm curious, once you import the files into MFE, are they then stored somewhere that can be compromised? Cheers.

The files that are downloaded from your bank will not be moved on import. Whether they are secure will depend on where you downloaded them to but this is not something MFE has any control over.

If you are asking about the location of the MFE data, then this is stored under your Windows' user folder. Something like:
C:\Users\Sabano\AppData\Roaming\Metalogic\Finance Explorer\

Standard Windows security applies and by default, other users will not have access to anything under your user folder.
