Help - Transactions invisible!

Postby nicolleen » 23 Feb 2015, 12:58

Dear Metalogics,

I've just run into a very strange problem!

I have downloaded the latest transactions, as i do, I have converted them from ofc to ofx with MT2OFX, like usual, I get the right balance, I have a lot of data in the budget view (probably all), thanks to "Category Rules", but the February in transaction view is empty! January ends on the 27th! The transactions must be somewhere, or the balance as well as the budget would not be correct, but nothing to be seen! I have restarted FE a couple of times, repeated the Import, to no avail. What could the matter be and how can I fix it!?

Best regards,
Niki

Hi Niki,
Sorry to hear you are experiencing problems. From what you describe, my best guess is that the transactions are in the wrong period. The period is set based on the <DTPOSTED> tag in the OFX files. That tag is supposed to be followed by a date value in the format YYYYMMDD. Perhaps the tag was wrong in the original OFC file or got incorrectly modified during the conversion to OFX?

You can open the file in any text editor an verify the posted date.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I have checked those files. The dates are in the format yyyymmdd. I compared two files, the recent one (that I downloaded a couple of times, with no change), and an old one that had worked all right at the time. I cannot see any differences, except for the transactions of course. Also the two corresponding ofx files, although there the dates have some strange format, that I don't understand (both of them). I am at a loss.
I will copy a few lines, in case you notice anything:

At least one of these looks wrong:
<DTPOSTED>19991130120000

For some reason the date is back in November 1999. If you were to change to that date, I'll bet you find this transaction.

Taking a closer look, it appears that the date got mangled in the conversion from OFC to OFX.

OFC = <DTPOSTED>20150224
OFX = <DTPOSTED>19991130120000

By the way, Finance Explorer supports OFC natively so there is no need to convert from OFC to OFX. Although if memory serves me right you had some issues with your bank changing the FITID with each download (which it is not supposed to) or something like that? Perhaps MT2OFX has an option for just fixing the FITID without making other changes to the file (basically, leave it as an OFC).

Dear Metalogic,

you are right, I found the entries in November 1999, however that happened!

What I don't understand is, that last month up to the 27th worked ok, and these files also contain these 1999 dates in the converted ofx files. And further: Why does the budget view contain data in February, when the data is actually sitting in Nov 1999?

Yes, your memory is amazing, the problem with the original ofc files was always the issue with the unique identification code.

I am changing bank next month anyway, so this problem should hopefully also solve itself. What can I do with this data now? Change every entry manually I guess? That would also explain why every year roughly my balance suddenly doesn't add up and 3 or 4 entries seem lost.

Well, in any case, thank you very much for your quick help!

What a nuisance. I tried only ofc now, only about a quarter of the transactions make it to the import. Using OFX (converted) leads in correct balances but entries end up in 1999. Using a backup copy of MT2OFX has no effect. The bank must have made some changes that I can't control. I see no other way for the moment than to edit the dates manually with all missing entries. Nov 1999 by the way only contains this months problems, there are no other lost transactions anywere to be seen. Thanks for your help, I guess as the problem has nothing to do with FE I have to solve this by myself.

best regards,
niki
